Aviation Officer

About the role

The World Food Programme is seeking an Aviation Officer to join its Madagascar Country Office. Based in Antananarivo, the officer will support the United Nations Humanitarian Air Service (UNHAS) by coordinating safe and efficient air operations for humanitarian missions.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in planning and coordinating aviation operations in line with WFP and UN aviation standards.
• Support aviation projects, applying risk‑management processes to ensure safety.
• Liaise with airport authorities, local officials and external partners to obtain necessary approvals and documentation for flights.
• Collect, analyse and report aviation data to improve operational performance.
• Review internal procedures and recommend efficiency improvements.
• Prepare accurate aviation reports for decision‑making and donor reporting.
• Provide capacity‑building training on safe aviation practices for WFP staff and partners.
• Support emergency preparedness, enabling rapid passenger services, relief deliveries, and medical or security evacuations.

Required profile

• Minimum three years of relevant professional experience in aviation operations.
• Bachelor’s degree in Aeronautics, Aviation Engineering, Airport Management or a related field (or a technical/vocational diploma with additional experience).
• Fluent French and working knowledge of English.

Required skills

• Use of aviation safety information systems for risk analysis.
• Arranging flight clearances and preparing immigration documentation.
• Coordinating ramp activities with national aviation authorities.
• Monitoring operational reports and advising on service utilization trends.
• Knowledge of drone operations (advantage).
