Senior Rapid Response Officer

About the role

The Senior Rapid Response Officer will lead the Strengthening Infectious Disease Detection Systems (STRIDES) emergency response activities in Madagascar. Working closely with the Ministry of Public Health, the role oversees outbreak response teams and ensures alignment with national and global Standard Operating Protocols.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee day‑to‑day implementation of emergency preparedness and response activities across Madagascar.
• Conduct epidemic preparedness assessments and lead intra‑action and after‑action reviews.
• Update, adapt, and implement Standard Operating Protocols for health emergencies.
• Collaborate with the Ministry of Public Health and other stakeholders to plan and coordinate sustainable epidemic responses.
• Develop and execute a training strategy, delivering capacity‑building sessions for local teams.
• Prepare technical reports, donor deliverables, publications, and external communications.
• Coordinate with USG, host‑country government counterparts, and in‑country partners to ensure effective outbreak response.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in infectious disease outbreak response and emergency preparedness.
• Strong knowledge of SOP development and implementation for health emergencies.
• Proven ability to work with government ministries, multi‑agency teams, and international partners.
• Excellent analytical judgment and project coordination skills.
• Experience managing technical staff and leading complex, variable‑scope projects.
