Chief Child Protection Officer – Fixed Term (P-4)

About the role

UNICEF is seeking a senior professional to lead its Child Protection portfolio in Madagascar. The Chief Child Protection Officer will provide strategic direction, coordinate programme implementation and ensure that protection interventions reach the most vulnerable children across the country.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and oversee the implementation of the national child protection strategy in line with UNICEF’s equity and rights‑based approach.
• Coordinate with government ministries, civil society, and development partners to strengthen protection systems and respond to violence against children.
• Provide technical guidance and capacity‑building to UNICEF country teams and partners on child protection standards and best practices.
• Monitor, analyse and report on protection data, ensuring evidence‑based decision‑making and advocacy.
• Represent UNICEF in national and international forums, advocating for policies that prevent physical, psychological and sexual violence.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in social sciences, public health, law or a related field.
• At least eight years of professional experience in child protection, preferably in humanitarian or development settings.
• Demonstrated leadership and management experience at senior level.
• Fluency in English and French; knowledge of Malagasy is an asset.
• Proven experience working in Madagascar or comparable contexts.
