Accounting Assistant

About the role

The Accounting Assistant will support IITA Madagascar’s financial operations by handling day‑to‑day accounting, reporting and administrative tasks. This role ensures accurate record‑keeping, timely reimbursements and compliance with internal policies and local regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare monthly expense reports, journals and ledgers.
• Perform bank and cash balance reconciliations each month.
• Track and reconcile travel and cash advances, ensuring timely reimbursements.
• Verify supporting documents and file financial records in hard copy and archives.
• Manage fuel pre‑payments, cost‑center allocations and monthly fuel account reconciliation.
• Monitor vehicle usage, maintenance and assist with unit inventory management.
• Ensure monthly withheld taxes are remitted to tax authorities on schedule.
• Act as custodian of accounting documents such as payment files and journal vouchers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field.
• Minimum two years of experience in a similar accounting role within a structured environment.
• Experience in development projects or international organizations is an asset.
• Fluency in English and French.
• High ethical standards and ability to maintain confidentiality.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
• Experience using accounting software.
