Child Protection Officer – Temporary (Fort Dauphin, Madagascar)

About the role

UNICEF is seeking a dedicated Child Protection Officer for a 364‑day temporary assignment in Fort Dauphin, Madagascar. The role focuses on safeguarding children in the Anosy region, where environmental challenges and poverty increase vulnerability to violence, exploitation, early marriage and child labour.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and monitor child protection programmes in line with UNICEF’s equity strategy.
• Coordinate with local authorities, NGOs and community leaders to prevent abuse, neglect and exploitation.
• Collect, analyse and report data on child protection indicators, including birth registration, child labour and early marriage.
• Provide technical support and capacity‑building to partners on child safeguarding standards.
• Ensure compliance with UNICEF policies and the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Required profile

• Proven experience in child protection, humanitarian or development contexts.
• Strong understanding of the social, cultural and legal factors affecting children in Madagascar.
• Ability to work in remote, resource‑constrained environments and adapt to emergencies such as cyclones.
• Excellent communication and reporting skills in English; French is an asset.
