Country Director – Madagascar

About the role

Welthungerhilfe is seeking a Country Director to lead its programme in Madagascar. Based in Antananarivo, the Director will steer the country office toward the organization’s vision of Zero Hunger on a Healthy Planet, ensuring strategic impact and sustainable results.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and manage the country strategy and programme portfolio in line with Welthungerhilfe’s global objectives.
• Represent the organisation with government authorities, donors, partners and other humanitarian actors.
• Secure and expand funding for new and follow‑on projects.
• Oversee financial management, compliance and operational efficiency.
• Recruit, develop and retain qualified national staff, fostering a culture of integrity and learning.
• Ensure the safety and security of staff and assets.
• Contribute to the Global Management Team and shape organisational strategy.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years of senior management experience in international development, humanitarian aid or related sectors.
• Proven track record in strategic planning, partnership building and fundraising.
• Strong leadership and people‑management skills, with experience leading multicultural teams.
• Excellent communication and negotiation abilities at senior‑level.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of French or Malagasy is an advantage.
