Country Director – Madagascar

About the role

Welthungerhilfe is seeking a dynamic leader to head its operations in Madagascar. As Country Director, you will steer a results‑driven programme that contributes to the organisation’s Zero Hunger vision while ensuring sustainable impact for vulnerable communities.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the country strategy, overseeing programme design, implementation and monitoring.
• Represent Welthungerhilfe at the highest levels with government, donors, partners and civil society.
• Secure and manage funding, ensuring financial stewardship and compliance.
• Build and nurture strategic partnerships and joint initiatives.
• Lead, mentor and retain a diverse national team, fostering a culture of integrity and learning.
• Ensure the safety, security and operational excellence of all activities.
• Contribute to Welthungerhilfe’s Global Management Team and shape organisational strategy.

Required profile

• Extensive senior‑level experience in humanitarian or development programmes, preferably in food security or related sectors.
• Proven track record of managing large, multi‑disciplinary teams and complex budgets.
• Strong experience in donor relations, fundraising and partnership development.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with fluency in English; knowledge of French or Malagasy is an advantage.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a politically and culturally diverse environment.
