Senior Conservation Research Assistant – Madagascar

About the role

This is a rare opportunity to live and work in Madagascar, one of the world’s most biodiverse and conservation‑critical regions. As a Senior Conservation Research Assistant you will lead SEED Madagascar’s field‑based research programme, overseeing daily camp operations and ensuring high‑quality data collection.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day operations of the research camp, including logistics and field safety.
• Design, implement, and monitor field research protocols in collaboration with the Conservation Research Programme Coordinator.
• Collect, curate, and ensure the integrity of research data.
• Support data analysis, prepare reports, and disseminate findings to donors and the broader conservation community.
• Provide leadership, mentorship, and pastoral support to junior staff and volunteers.

Required profile

• Relevant MSc degree (e.g., Ecology, Conservation Biology, Environmental Science).
• 1–3 years of practical field research experience in a remote or tropical setting.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently in challenging environments.

Required skills

• Data collection and management in field research contexts.
• Experience with research design and implementation.
• Ability to produce clear scientific reports and presentations.
