Technical Director – Thermal – Madagascar

About the role

The Technical Director – Thermal will lead the operational and technical performance of a portfolio of thermal generation assets in Madagascar, ensuring reliable electricity supply in a challenging grid environment. This senior position combines strategic leadership, stakeholder engagement and hands‑on plant management.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and technical oversight across all thermal generation assets.
• Ensure high performance, reliability and efficiency of plant operations.
• Lead and develop plant managers and engineering teams, building strong operational capability.
• Act as the primary technical interface with government authorities, utilities, regulators and international partners.
• Manage relationships with contractors, EPC partners, suppliers and service providers.
• Oversee operational risk, plant reliability and asset performance in a grid affected by load‑shedding.
• Support plant upgrades, optimisation initiatives and future generation projects.

Required profile

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Fluent or advanced French language skills.
• 10+ years of experience in power generation, with significant exposure to thermal power plant operations.
• Proven ability to manage multi‑site assets and technical teams in emerging markets.
• Experience operating in politically sensitive environments and managing stakeholder relationships.
