Value Chain Expert – Feasibility Study for Madagascar Vanilla Sector

About the role

Fairtrade Africa is seeking a Value Chain Expert to lead a two‑month feasibility study on cooperative aggregation models within Madagascar’s vanilla sector. The consultancy will focus on ten Fairtrade‑certified vanilla cooperatives in the SAVA region, generating evidence to design a pilot "super aggregation" model.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement a field‑based assessment of aggregation opportunities, including curing, quality management, and market access.
• Analyse cost‑sharing, pooled services, and economies of scale to determine potential value capture improvements.
• Prioritise aggregation models based on impact, feasibility, and alignment with Fairtrade standards.
• Produce a comprehensive feasibility report with recommendations for a pilot implementation.

Required profile

• Proven experience in agricultural value chain analysis, preferably in vanilla or similar cash‑crop sectors.
• Familiarity with cooperative structures and Fairtrade certification requirements.
• Strong field research skills and ability to work directly with farmer groups.
• Excellent written communication for report preparation.
