Country Director, Madagascar

About the role

Welthungerhilfe is seeking a Country Director to lead its operations in Madagascar. The role is based in Antananarivo and focuses on delivering sustainable, impact‑oriented programmes that contribute to the organization’s Zero Hunger mission.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the strategic direction of the country programme.
• Represent Welthungerhilfe with government authorities, donors, partners and other development actors.
• Secure funding and build strategic partnerships for programme growth.
• Oversee financial stewardship, programme quality and operational management.
• Lead recruitment, development and retention of national staff and experts.
• Provide performance management and foster a high‑performing, accountable team culture.
• Contribute to Welthungerhilfe’s global management team and strategic planning.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in senior management within humanitarian or development contexts.
• Proven track record in programme design, implementation and results delivery.
• Strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to manage budgets, contracts and compliance requirements.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of French or Malagasy is an advantage.
