Driver Mechanic (SC3) – Ambovombe, Madagascar

About the role

The World Food Programme seeks a qualified Driver Mechanic (SC3) to support its operations in Ambovombe. You will be responsible for maintaining the fleet of vehicles, generators and related equipment, ensuring they are safe and operational. The role also includes transporting staff and goods efficiently and securely.

Key responsibilities

• Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repairs on vehicles, light trucks, generators and other transport equipment following manufacturer standards and WFP safety procedures.
• Conduct regular inspections using diagnostic tools and computerized systems, report findings and recommend cost‑effective solutions.
• Recover and repair damaged equipment from field missions, install and maintain communication devices such as VHF radios and satellite tracking systems.
• Maintain accurate maintenance logs, parts inventory and report any manufacturing defects.
• Provide safe transport for authorized personnel, deliver goods, and assist visitors with airport and customs procedures.

Required profile

• Secondary education completed with technical training in automotive maintenance or a related mechanical field.
• Valid driver’s licence for light and utility vehicles as required by local regulations.
• Minimum three (3) years of progressive experience in vehicle and equipment maintenance and at least three (3) years of driving experience, preferably in an international or humanitarian setting.

Required skills

• Vehicle maintenance and repair, including diagnostics and use of computerized tools.
• Generator servicing and troubleshooting.
• Installation and upkeep of VHF radios, satellite tracking equipment, and other vehicle‑mounted communication systems.
• Spare‑parts management and inventory tracking.
