Field Agent – Marine Protected Area

About the role

Conservation International is seeking a Field Agent to work on the Ambodivahibe Marine Protected Area in Antsiranana, Madagascar. The role involves close collaboration with local communities, authorities and partners to support marine conservation, resource management and restoration activities.

Key responsibilities

• Organise and lead community‑based activities, fostering participation in conservation and marine resource management.
• Conduct needs assessments, deliver training and build capacity of local structures for protected‑area management.
• Support mapping of restoration zones, establishment of a mangrove nursery, and oversee mangrove restoration and monitoring.
• Develop and implement a communication strategy between Conservation International, local communities and authorities.
• Collect ecological and fisheries data (e.g., CPUE), update monitoring databases and report results to stakeholders.
• Contribute to quarterly, half‑yearly and annual work plans and provide inputs for monitoring‑evaluation tools.
• Assist in organising regional and local meetings, workshops and field surveillance activities.

Required profile

• Experience working in community‑based conservation, marine protected areas or similar field settings.
• Ability to work independently in remote field conditions and travel frequently within the project area.
• Strong communication and facilitation skills with diverse stakeholder groups.
• Basic knowledge of ecological monitoring, mangrove restoration and fisheries data collection.
