French-English Translator Consultant (short‑term)

About the role

Q2IMPACT is seeking a French‑English Translator Consultant to support a short‑term evaluation assignment in Madagascar. The consultant will provide real‑time interpretation during qualitative data collection activities, ensuring accurate communication between interviewers and respondents.

Key responsibilities

• Provide consecutive interpretation during Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) and other stakeholder interviews.
• Facilitate clear, accurate communication between interviewers and respondents throughout the data‑collection process.
• Review and clarify interview notes or translated content to maintain fidelity to original meanings.
• Coordinate with the evaluation team to ensure consistent terminology and alignment with project objectives.
• Maintain professionalism and confidentiality while supporting qualitative data collection.

Required profile

• Native or near‑native fluency in both French and English.
• Proven experience delivering written translation and oral interpretation services.
• Prior involvement in qualitative data collection such as KIIs, interviews, or similar research activities.
• Experience translating technical, infrastructure, energy, or development‑sector materials.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to convey nuanced technical concepts.
• Capability to work independently under a short‑term consulting arrangement.
