Senior Gender and Inclusive Transport Expert

About the role

NTU International is looking for a senior professional to lead gender mainstreaming and inclusive transport initiatives within the EU‑funded Technical Assistance to ECOWAS in Transport Governance project. The role will support ECOWAS institutions, member states and regional stakeholders in embedding gender equality and social inclusion into transport policies, infrastructure planning and corridor management across West Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Integrate gender equality and social inclusion considerations into transport policies, infrastructure projects and corridor governance initiatives.
• Provide technical assistance on gender‑responsive infrastructure planning, inclusive mobility approaches and equitable access strategies.
• Conduct gender and social inclusion assessments for transport infrastructure and regional connectivity projects.
• Develop inclusive transport policies, action plans and operational frameworks.
• Advise ECOWAS institutions and member states on gender mainstreaming, vulnerable groups and inclusive governance mechanisms.
• Facilitate the participation of women, youth, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable populations in transport planning and decision‑making.
• Prepare social analyses, policy recommendations, safeguard documentation and inclusion strategies.
• Coordinate with public institutions, civil society organisations, development partners and regional stakeholders.
• Deliver workshops, consultations and capacity‑building activities on gender equality and inclusive transport systems.
• Support monitoring, reporting and evaluation of inclusion and gender mainstreaming activities.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in gender studies, social sciences, transport planning, development studies, sociology, public policy or a related field.
• Minimum 10 years of professional experience in gender equality, social inclusion, transport governance or development programmes.
• At least 7 years of experience specifically in gender mainstreaming, inclusive infrastructure or social inclusion initiatives.
• Proven experience working on infrastructure, transport or social development projects in developing countries, preferably in Sub‑Saharan Africa.
• Experience with international development cooperation and donor‑funded programmes.
