Senior Grants Manager

About the role

The Seed Fund for Nature, hosted and administered by Conservation International, supports countries in turning climate and nature commitments into coordinated action through catalytic funding, technical support and strategic partnerships for Country Packages under the Forest & Climate Leaders' Partnership. The Senior Grants Manager ensures that their portfolio of subgrants and subcontracts complies with donor council requirements, including financial reporting and contractual compliance, and strengthens sub-recipients' management capacity. The role develops a partnership with the Seed Fund for Nature leadership and stakeholders, provides full-cycle grants and contracts support and training, and reports to the Senior Director, External Grants and Contracts. It is based in Arlington-VA, Madagascar, South Africa or Belgium.

Key responsibilities

• Support the full sub-award lifecycle: prepare agreements, amendments, modifications and closeout documentation, and conduct pre-award due diligence including financial risk assessments, security screenings and verification of organizational information.
• Review due diligence documentation, recommend risk mitigation measures, and incorporate donor, organizational and regulatory requirements into sub-awards, contracts, budgets and related documents.
• Coordinate pre-award activities such as field visits, recipient orientations, kickoff meetings and award negotiations, and interpret donor and organizational policies to staff, vendors, contractors and grantees.
• Build respectful, accountable relationships with grantees, contractors and vendors, act as main point of contact during the award period, and identify capacity-building needs.
• Review financial reports for completeness, accuracy and allowability, monitor performance and compliance, resolve day-to-day compliance issues, request and track award disbursements, and track compliance and reporting metrics.
• Maintain accurate award data, process Contract Master File and Vendor Master File requests, generate reports on award activity and compliance, and liaise with IT, operations and program teams to improve systems and workflows.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree, preferably in a finance-related field.
• 7+ years of experience in a not-for-profit setting in grants or finance, and up to 2 years of supervisory experience.
• Experience in a matrix management environment and mentoring or training staff or implementing partners.
• Strong oral and written English; proficiency in Spanish or French preferred, and a third language is an advantage.
• Ability to work independently and in a geographically dispersed team across time zones, with strong attention to detail.

• Salary range of $92,000-$97,000 annually, depending on location, skills and experience.
