Technical Advisor – Polio

About the role

The Technical Advisor – Polio will provide strategic and technical leadership for the STRIDES activity in Madagascar, ensuring that polio surveillance, laboratory strengthening, case detection, response and data analysis are aligned with global guidance and donor regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and implementation of polio‑related components of the STRIDES work plan.
• Provide technical oversight to in‑country teams, troubleshoot challenges and adapt interventions to evolving epidemiologic contexts.
• Support capacity‑building, mentoring and strategic assistance for surveillance, biosafety/biosecurity, laboratory operations, specimen management and data quality.
• Develop tools, guidance and learning products that enhance the STRIDES polio portfolio.
• Represent STRIDES with key donors and global health actors, ensuring effective communication and strategic alignment.
• Collaborate with the STRIDES Technical Director, MEL Director and Program Implementation Director to cascade technical strategy and ensure compliant delivery.

Required profile

• Demonstrated ability to work on complex technical problems with minimal supervision.
• Strong judgment in selecting methods and techniques for solution development.
• Proven experience networking with internal and external stakeholders and providing input to senior technical leadership.
