About the role

Save the Children is looking for a Construction Engineer to join its team in Toamasina, Madagascar for a five‑month fixed‑term contract. The engineer will lead the rehabilitation of schools that have been severely damaged by successive cyclones, ensuring safe and resilient learning environments for children.

Key responsibilities

• Assess damage and develop rehabilitation plans for affected schools.
• Coordinate and supervise construction works, ensuring compliance with technical standards and timelines.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including local authorities, NGOs and community representatives.
• Monitor health, safety, environmental and quality (QHSE) aspects throughout the project.
• Report progress and challenges to senior management and donors.

Required profile

• University degree in Construction, Civil Engineering, BTP, Hydraulics, Architecture or equivalent.
• At least five years of professional experience in construction, preferably in emergency or development projects.
• Understanding of gender inclusion and community participation.
• Strong communication skills in English (French is an advantage).
• Valid driver’s licence and ability to work under pressure.
