Driver (3 Positions)

About the role

IITA is looking for drivers in Antananarivo, Madagascar, on a 5-month renewable contract. The driver ensures the safe and efficient transport of IITA staff, partners and official visitors, delivers and collects mail, equipment and supplies, and maintains IITA vehicles in line with the IITA/AfricaRice vehicle management policy. The driver reports to the Project Administrator.

Key responsibilities

• Perform daily maintenance checks on IITA vehicles (oil, water, battery, brakes, tires) and arrange minor and major maintenance.
• Keep vehicles clean and organize regular maintenance with reputable service providers.
• Organize hotel-airport transfers for official visitors and drive the office vehicle to transport authorized personnel and deliver or collect cargo.
• Drive safely and courteously, following all road safety regulations, and report vehicle problems and repairs promptly to the Project Administrator.
• Take IITA staff and partners to approved project field sites and assist with delivering mail, equipment and documents.
• Update the vehicle logbook according to the vehicle management policy and liaise with the Project Administrator, providing weekly activity updates.
• Ensure compliance with the vehicle policy and perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

• At least post-secondary education.
• Valid driver's license, at least category B.
• At least 2 years of relevant experience and good knowledge of driving rules and regulations.
• Fluent in Malagasy and French.

Required skills

• Basic mechanical knowledge.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, initiative and sound judgment.
