Head of Legal and Regulatory

About the role

Helios Towers, an independent telecommunications infrastructure company building, owning and operating telecom towers across Africa and the Middle East, is looking for a Head of Legal and Regulatory in Madagascar. Reporting to the Managing Director, the role leads the legal function in the operating company, acts as principal legal advisor, Company Secretary and head of the legal team.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and implementation of the company's legal strategy and governance framework
• Advise senior leadership on legal, regulatory and compliance matters
• Manage and mitigate legal risks across all business activities
• Oversee contract drafting, review and negotiation, including complex and sensitive agreements
• Supervise litigation, disputes and relationships with external legal counsel
• Act as Company Secretary, ensuring compliance with statutory and corporate governance requirements
• Manage stakeholder relationships with regulators, investors, banks and public institutions
• Support site acquisition, including lease approvals and regulatory compliance
• Provide legal support to HR, tax and other internal functions
• Lead, develop and manage the legal team

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor or barrister with a relevant legal degree
• Minimum 5-7 years' post-qualification experience
• Proven experience leading legal teams in an in-house environment
• Experience within a listed company (FTSE 250 or equivalent)
• Strong regulatory and compliance experience
• Experience in international or multi-market environments
• Fluency in French and English is desirable
