Senior Technical Water Specialist – Mining Operations

About the role

NM Projects is seeking a senior water management professional to lead the design, optimisation and governance of an integrated water management system for a large‑scale mining operation in Madagascar. The role combines strategic planning, technical leadership, operational support and capability development.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct a comprehensive assessment of existing water management systems.
• Develop and maintain site‑wide water balance models with >95% accuracy.
• Optimise process, potable, wastewater and stormwater systems and identify reuse opportunities.
• Develop or update hydrological and hydrogeological models and assess surface‑groundwater interactions.
• Support water‑related capital projects, improve monitoring instrumentation and reporting.
• Assess and mitigate water‑related operational and environmental risks, and create response plans for flooding or contamination.
• Establish water governance frameworks, procedures and performance metrics aligned with international standards.
• Mentor a local Water Advisor through a structured knowledge‑transfer programme.

Required profile

• Degree in Hydrology, Hydrogeology, Water Engineering, Environmental Engineering or related discipline.
• 10–15 years of relevant experience in water management for mining or heavy‑industry projects.
• Proven experience in developing water balance models and leading technical teams.
