Agricultural Advisor – 2‑Year Contract in Antananarivo

About the role

The Agricultural Advisor will provide hands‑on technical support to rice producers and producer organisations in Antananarivo, implementing field activities of the RIZ PLUS project. Reporting to the Project Head of Mission, the advisor works closely with technical and coordination teams.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver practical technical assistance to producers and producer organisations on good agricultural practices (GAP) for rice cultivation.
• Organise and lead demonstration sessions, farmer field schools and practical trainings.
• Support producer organisations in structuring, capacity building and linking them with input suppliers and markets.
• Monitor demonstration plots, collect technical data and report performance indicators.
• Identify training needs, draft weekly/monthly technical reports and participate in coordination meetings.
• Ensure compliance with environmental, social and inclusion safeguards within the intervention area.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (Bac+3) in agronomy or a related field.
• Minimum three years of experience providing technical support to agricultural producers or in extension services.
• Experience in rural development projects is an asset.
• Ability to work independently, travel frequently to rural areas and handle pressure.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Strong technical report writing ability.
• Fluency in French and Malagasy.
• Knowledge of rice cultivation techniques and agricultural technical itineraries.
