Business Development Lead – HR & Payroll Software

About the role

Onja, a social enterprise that trains underprivileged youth into software developers, is looking for a Business Development Lead on behalf of a new software initiative. The role tests the demand for an HR and payroll solution in the Malagasy market, building the client base from scratch. It is a predominantly outbound role: cold calling, LinkedIn outreach and initial discovery discussions, aimed at bringing the first clients on board.

The position is a 3-month contract to start, with the possibility of extension to 12 months depending on performance and market traction. Onja is based in Toamasina, Madagascar.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and research target businesses across Madagascar
• Leverage personal and professional networks, attend local events and turn connections into warm introductions to key decision-makers
• Make outbound cold calls to prospects in French
• Engage decision-makers via LinkedIn and run initial discovery calls to understand needs and present the service
• Track and record all outreach activity and pipeline progress
• Meet and report against weekly and monthly targets
• Share market insights with the team and help refine the sales approach

Required profile

• Fluent in spoken and written French and English
• Comfortable with ambiguity and excited by early-stage experimentation
• Strong communicator, confident, clear and personable
• Highly motivated and eager to build a career in sales
• Organised and self-disciplined
