Land and Seascape Director, MaMaBay

About the role

The MaMaBay Land and Seascape Director leads the implementation of the 5‑year (2025‑2030) strategy for the MaMaBay landscape, which includes Makira Natural Park, Masoala National Park and Antongil Bay. Based in Maroantsetra, the Director reports to the Country Director and works closely with senior management, local communities and field staff to advance conservation, REDD+ and ESG objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Provide overall management and strategic oversight of the MaMaBay program, ensuring alignment with WCS global goals.
• Supervise the Field Operations Manager, Protected Area Manager and Sciences Manager, and directly oversee the MaMaBay Program Manager.
• Drive the scaling of conservation actions across the landscape, including forest carbon protection, biodiversity conservation and community livelihood improvement.
• Ensure compliance with international REDD+ safeguards, carbon standards and ESG frameworks.
• Coordinate with Madagascar senior management, local communities and external partners to foster collaborative implementation.
• Monitor performance, adapt activities as needed, and report on progress to WCS leadership.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in large‑scale conservation, protected‑area management or REDD+ projects.
• Strong understanding of forest carbon markets, ESG frameworks and international environmental safeguards.
• Experience managing multidisciplinary teams and complex stakeholder relationships.
• Demonstrated ability to work in remote field settings and engage effectively with local communities.
