Counselling Course Designer

About the role

Onja, a social enterprise in Toamasina, Madagascar that trains underprivileged youth into software developers, is building a new counselling training programme from the ground up. The goal is to turn absolute beginners into competent practitioners able to provide counselling online, using evidence-based methods such as CBT, with regular supervision throughout their careers. The programme is designed to create employment opportunities for students and to diversify course offerings.

Key responsibilities

• Create engaging video lectures, learning activities and course content that build a comprehensive counselling curriculum for absolute beginners.
• Collaborate with licensed mental health professionals and subject matter experts, incorporating their experience into the course design.
• Ensure the curriculum meets industry standards and gives graduates viable routes to professional practice.
• Apply tested instructional design theories, practices and methods.
• Define the criteria used to assess learners' performance.

Required profile

• Active professional licensure or certification as a counsellor, mental health practitioner, or a university degree in Counselling.
• At least 3 years of mental health support or counselling practice experience.
• Instructional design experience is a bonus.
• Commitment of twelve months, with potential to renew or extend.
