Director of Renewable Energy – Utility Scale Projects

About the role

The company, a leading independent power producer in Madagascar, is seeking a Director of Renewable Energy to steer a major utility‑scale energy transition programme. Reporting to the Executive Board, you will be responsible for delivering large‑scale solar and hybrid projects that expand clean power generation and improve grid reliability.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development, execution and commissioning of a substantial utility‑scale solar portfolio.
• Drive hybridisation of existing generation assets by integrating thermal, solar and battery storage technologies.
• Achieve economic and environmental targets through reduced fuel consumption and lower carbon emissions.
• Manage relationships with government bodies, utilities, development finance institutions and international stakeholders.
• Provide leadership to multidisciplinary engineering, project delivery and operations teams.
• Support the strategic growth and long‑term expansion of the renewable energy platform.

Required profile

• Fluency in French for stakeholder management and commercial negotiations.
• Master’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Power Systems or a related field.
• 10–15+ years of experience delivering utility‑scale solar, hybrid power systems or large energy infrastructure programmes.
• Proven leadership of complex, multi‑site projects, preferably in emerging markets and Africa.

Required skills

• Solar PV technology expertise.
• Grid integration and battery energy storage systems (BESS) knowledge.
• Understanding of Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and project contracts.
• Commercial and financial acumen for large‑scale energy projects.
